St. Joseph's Museum Hill and Hall Street Historic Districts hold homes built between the 1860s and the early 1900s, a legacy of the city's growth from an 1843 river trading post into the launch point of the 1860 Pony Express. Homes within or near these designated districts sometimes carry additional design review requirements for exterior changes visible from the street, which can include deck additions depending on placement and visibility. This doesn't mean a deck isn't possible — it means the design and permit process may have an extra step.
